That's the one thing I didn't check before I took stuff apart to do the other repairs needed. If I get it all back together tomorrow I'm going to test it.

I do know that the battery was fully charged, and even jumping it from my truck didn't change anything. I also tried to jump the starter directly from the fuse box, and nothing. But bench testing it, the starter worked fine.

I almost wonder if the flexplate is frozen in place, but where the car was running 2 days earlier, I doubt it.

Yeah that’s really weird that it wouldn’t run the starter in the car.

If I get that far today I'll test voltage everywhere. I kind of want to see if the flexplate is turning. I don't see why it wouldn't be, had to push the car in the garage with my truck.

Literally the only thing that changed was plugging a seat in. So it's odd. My thoughts were somehow the seats were part of the start up circuit or something like that.

Watch me out the stupid thing back together and it fires right up. If not, I'm going to see if my coworker with vida can come over this weekend and see if it's running any codes

Got my leakdown tester and a portable compressor with some help this christmas. It pays to obey the women in your life.

Will check the health of the crashed car engine and the silver parts car. Have also been dabbling with the idea of an 00 RN swap for a NA engine. Seen lots of posts for turbo engines but not as many for the NA engine.

My plan is to verify the condition of the piston rings. I know my old car burned oil, but if the rings are good then its likely just valve stem seals. The engine is half apart (no intake, rad, or exhaust manifold) so i cant do a compression test unless i hotwire the starter motor.

From what i recall the compression on that engine was pretty good a while back.

The portable compressor will also let me rust proof some of the cars that are sitting outside along with a trailer.

I need to pick up a remote storage tank to allow for more cooldown time on the compressor. Its a MAC5200 which runs all the air requirements for my tools and has a low charge time. Adding another 10gal tank should bring me into the money.

Had to order a different vag-com cable as the first one was canceled. Might try and find a compatible ELM327 instead.

Other than that I've started my descent into madness, using cork tape on loose or creaky trim I could find (i.e. any with easy access to the underside.) Results so far are encouraging. I think I'll end up sound deadening in this process.

The folded ears are nothing to do with the undertray fixings, I suspect they were for factory use when the car was on the assembly line

Today I finished adding all the part numbers from the parts cataloguing process into my spread sheet. Eek!

There are some gaps in the lines for separating different bins, but there are over 1400 lines! I already know there are few more items to add as well as the parts that I have ordered from FCP and IPD. Hmm................! :o

Time to start un-loading some of this stuff.

levalexi wrote: 02 Jan 2024, 18:52 Would an immobilizer problem cause the car to not crank? My 2000 V70 XC wouldn't turn on the other day. I go and put the key in and when I turn it it doesn't crank it just goes click.

The car ran two days before it was parked where sat. The only thing that had changed between then and now was I plugged in the passenger seat.

previously The car was driving around fine with no seats in it, so I don't know why it would be acting up all of a sudden. I thought it might have been the starter, but I pulled that and bench tested it and it's perfectly fine.

But anyways, aren't what I did for the day.

I pulled the bumper off to get the two screws for my fog lights I broke off months ago. Had to put a little bead on there and extract them with a pair of vise grips. And I got the header panel on from the car I scrapped this summer, because mine was broken.

Tomorrow I'm going to put the bumper back on get fog lights mounted up and possibly swap out my headlights.

My projector retrofits need the housing swapped. The nutsert on one of the headlights broke and I had to cut it off. So I'm swapping the projectors over to my C70 headlights, and I'm going to swap the shrouds so they match the chrome. I'm going to have to cut these shrouds a smidge, but it's not a big deal.

And hook up the high beams so that way I have stupid bright high beams.

Any help with the no start issue would definitely be appreciated. There is fuel there is no crank.

Ah-ha!

The one thing the remote starter does not bypass is the PnP switch on an Auto transmission. If that’s flaky, you will get a non crank. A good benchrunning starter that won’t crank in the remote terminal is a solid diagnostic for a PNP switch problem

You can deeper diagnose by jumping at the PNP switch

Having finally documented all (most) of the spare parts in the stash, decided it was time to clear more of the workbench. Pulled out the P80 speaker test system and tested 1 of each from a wagon. 3/4 worked fine. 4th (front LH), seemed to be dead. Don't know what made me decide to check it further, but did a continuity test and found it was not open circuit so?? I have a short test lead with a alligator clip on each wire. Connected to the speaker and then a 9V battery and speaker cone moved just fine? Connected the speaker up and this time it ran just fine? Weird, but glad it was good as too late to return and no cars to pull from a the yard it is from!

Good start to trying to clear some of the back log! Next drag the new mini sand-blast cabinet back out and try it to clear up several rusted spares so they can get painted and then stored away.

I managed to get the snow tires on Blue Steel this week, just in time for today’s snow! Tomorrow, I’ll take the kids skiing for the first time in two years.
