Opening a 850/900 series garage ?

Post by manovlov »

Hy Buddies,

Since a couple of weeks, i think seriously about to open a 850/900 series car garage. I'm upset to work for a company where walls and mentalities are to small for a guy such me. They have replaced the talent to hire for a job by a sort of casting session, unbelievable.

Here, in France, the politic of petrol cars will change in 2035, no more thermics engine will be allow to be sold. But collection cars (more than 30 yo) will be accepted. So, i think, to finish my "worker life", why not take the opportunity to do what a like, manage a garage and sell 850/900 series petrol ones ?

Unless it's a retirement / hobby business, I don't think there's enough volume to justify the investment for such a tiny market.
I may be wrong. I knew a guy in Seattle who opened a specialty Alfa Romeo shop, aimed mostly at vintage cars. As Alfa stopped selling cars in the US, and the vintage cars got older and fewer, and most of those guys worked on their own anyway, there was just not enough market for him. He wasn't about to start working on Toyotas. He closed it and went back into finance.

Hy BlackBart,

I thank you for your opinion. You're right when you say that this kind of project must have been thought twice before to start. French drivers are very close to their car, something to matter with a kind of "their second wife"... 850 will soon be considered as collectors ones in 2024, with is a intersting statut. I keep thinking of this project.
