My car needs the ABS module rebuilt. I think I'm going to pull it, and get my original rebuilt rather than doing an exchange. I just like the idea of keeping the original since this is a low mile car.
First things first..... the E-Torx socket. Before I start ordering, where else to we have E-torx on our cars? I'm wondering if I should buy a whole set, or just the E5. I've never even seen an external Torx, so I'm a bit leery of buying a whole set to only use the E5 once. On the other hand, if they're sprinkled around the car, It wouldn't be bad to have the sockets on hand.
Maybe I should try the hex socket first, as I've read a few people have removed the screws with that..... my car is rust free so maybe they'll come out as easily as my O2 sensor did.
I kind if like the idea of replacing the E-Torx with Allen head, but if these come out super easily, it may be pointless.....I had zero issues with the regular Torx thermostat bolts so I kept them.
Next question, is area uncovered by the module being removed sensitive to dirt/water? I drive the car 100 miles daily, and I could park it while waiting on the module, but I'd rather not, due to the cost of gas and ride quality..... the truck rides rough, and a 454 uses a LOT of gas.
....The lights being on, and the false abs activation are getting annoying, so I'm kinda itching to get this done, now.
Going to start with the ABS module

Pm me your address and I’ll send you the stainless hex bolts to replace.
Get a cheap,e5 at harbor fright to get them off. You can asget a hex head to fit ‘pretty well’, I don’t remember the size
Etorx used in the wheel bearing hubs, too. Don’t go cheap on thst one. Those bolts will break cheap tools

The only place I’ve seen them was BMW bellhousing bolts. There were three sizes so we bought a set.

All over BMW
Front suspension, axle shaft bolts, driveshafts, guibo
It’s a great fastener. Torque is all in compression. Almost impossible to break the heads

If you have your ABS module re-built by our friend Matty Moo at Mid-West ABS he supplies and E5 Torx socket for you to remove the module. As he supplies for a small cost a unit in advance of yours being returned as a core.

Mercedes likes to use them everywhere. I bought a set when I encountered the first use on my 2001 Mercedes.

I just ordered a 1/4" drive flex head ratchet, and will buy the sockets from Harbor Freight. I didn't think HF would have E-torx, figuring they were too specialized.

+1 on the door hinge, and the set screw holding the moldex wire plug at the door pillar as well, as I recall.
I bought my set on Amazon (don't forget to use matthews' link); I don't remember if the HF set goes down that far; a quick search showed one set with Innies, but it only goes down to E6. My suggestion would be to get the right bit. While using a tiny metric hex socket may be tempting, if you strip the head trying to get it off, it becomes a whole 'nuther sport.
