Hello I've been skimming through old threads trying to fi d the answer um looking for but I figured I'd make my own topic about it. Recently purchased a v70 t5 2005 , car came with 2 error lights one for 4C and one for the alarm system.
On day 2 of ownership the sunroof died so i obviously took it back to the dealer like wtf. He swapped the siren in the fender as I learned this is pretty common but the alarm system service light is still on all the time. Is this something I'll need a computer to clear or should I try the lock/unlock trick on the UEM to reset it. Honestly any info on clearing the light is helpful. Cheers

Why did the dealer give you the car back with the alarm service light still on? Why did you take the car back with the light still on?Slipshodcrowd wrote: ↑24 Jul 2022, 20:44 Hello I've been skimming through old threads trying to fi d the answer um looking for but I figured I'd make my own topic about it. Did the dealer actually replace the siren module with a new one, used one or just unplugged it? Does your sunroof now work?
There's a single communication signal line that goes to the siren and the sunroof module from the Upper Electronics module and what typically happens is the siren rechargeable batteries leak and damage the siren circuit board. The damaged circuit board distorts the single signal line and the sunroof module stops working. You can unplug the siren module to get the sunroof working but I think you'll still see the siren service light. The UEM reset (unlocking/locking the dooors several times with the key) is needed any time the battery is disconnected and may be needed to get the sunroof working again and possibly to clear up the siren light.

Its not a typical dealer its a very small 3 bay shop that only fixes and sells volvo and subaru, I know for sure they at least unplugged it and removed the box as I watched them remove it and held the old part in my hand. My car was in and out very quick and given the fact that they never had any parts shipped and it seemed like they just had one on hand i'm gonna go ahead and say they just unplugged it to get me to shut up about the sunroof. Sunroof hasn't had an issue since so im cool with this fix since another siren is like $300+ CADfirstv70volvo wrote: ↑25 Jul 2022, 09:29Why did the dealer give you the car back with the alarm service light still on? I haven't done this but I've read you can remove the siren module from the system using Vida so if you unplug it you won't get an error message/light.Slipshodcrowd wrote: ↑26 Jul 2022, 00:19Its not a typical dealer its a very small 3 bay shop that only fixes and sells volvo and subaru, I know for sure they at least unplugged it and removed the box as I watched them remove it and held the old part in my hand. I had to replace the alarm module batteries in my 2004 v70, and when I did, it took a few DAYS for the errors to stop - I was getting "alarm triggered, check car" in the DIM, not an "Alarm System Service Required" message, but if they put in new batteries, you may have to wait a bit to see if the message "goes away". Messages go away after a certain number of "drives", so the car sitting in the garage does not count - you have to drive it. But easier to ask the shop what they did to fix this, as they may have simply removed the alarm module.
If they replaced it, there is a "vehicle communication" feature that marries a new alarm to a new CEM, so they may need to use the Volvo VIDA software to initialize the alarm. Indy shops are great, but very few can be trusted to do the right thing, first time, every time, as these beasties are complex.

1982 240DL: Drove it 32 years and 1.5 million miles (sold, even still had mint leather!)
2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

A few years ago, I replaced my alarm with a Volvo unit purchased from a Volvo dealer. This was due to the "Alarm System Service Required" message.
It was plug and play, and the message was off at the next ignition key on...no Vida or engine cycles.
I think your mechanic owes you an explanation since you brought it in to clear the message and fix the sunroof. My T5 does not have a sunroof so I never experienced that failure due to the alarm siren.

Yes the guy was a hack, just removed the old siren without replacing it. My sunroof now works but I was very sus so I tested my car alarm by leaving the windows down, locking the car, and unlocking by reaching inside. Lights all flash like someone broke in but there's no noise, so my guess is he just took it out to give me my roof back as I live in Vancouver where it can rain on demand93SCMax wrote: ↑27 Jul 2022, 05:33 A few years ago, I replaced my alarm with a Volvo unit purchased from a Volvo dealer. You probably can’t get keys or a fob made without the siren in place working. I believe it has to be seen on the CanBus to do any key registry
