paint code confusion

The plate in the engine bay says paint code 491-11.
This link says paint code 426 for Mystic Silver Metallic and there is no 491.
If you Google Volvo's colour code 491 you get Vanilla Pearl.
Thus my confusion.

Are you sure it is 491 and not 419? 419 is Pewster Silver/Silver Sand Metallic. I see pewster? name on several sources. Wonder if it is meant to be Pewter Silver?

My T5 is 419-11
ipd calls it pewter, the Britts call it silver sand metallic. ( I found the same typo Neil did, with an odd 'S' instead of an odd 'U' .)

I think Steve has a car with some of each, 419+426.

I am having a hair of black added to a spray can of 426 and will see how that matches and report back.

Please do, although I'm crossing my fingers, toes, and arms for you. I worked at a Sherwin-Williams paint store in high school, and matching existing colors was always difficult. House paint vs. car paint, but the theory is the same.

Can you please post a clear photo of your S70 for reference purposes?

English Color put 2 grams of black into the 426 mix.
It is difficult to see where we dabbed some paint on the bumper, but it appears more silver even w/the black.
We are looking at adding 2 more grams of black and do a better application w/a btush just to compare colors.
This may take a minute, lol.
You can see the difference in color (original paint mix) when looking at the bumpers/body in the images.
The '98 V70 Base in the background has a blown engine. If you need a part let me know.

As this is a base coat and clear coat system, does the clear not change the color when applied over the base?

scot850, I think it is originally single stage, but I can give it a go and will report back.
I have nothing to lose as I have sandpaper and I am repainting anyhoo.

So does the plate say 419 or 491? Maybe using 419 is the way to go.
