Please help date this photo using its cars

Post by matthew1 »

A friend and I are trying to put a date on this photo. So obviously the cars are by far the biggest clue. Can anybody date an actual car in this? Sorry about the low-ish resolution.

Here's what I told him:
For me there is no "gotcha" car, like a Corvette with sidepipes or something obvious. Lacking that, the cars are whispering 1972-1974 to me as a photo date. I see 1970s cars + earlier. It's mostly large American sedans and luxury coupes, lots of GM cars like Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile. I'm not good enough to name models at this photo's resolution, save for perhaps a Olds Cutlass in the intersection.
Nick, help!

I tried but your cell network rejected it. Here's the URL you can load by itself: download/file.php?id=75978

I can identify a lot of the makes and models but not the years. It'll take me a while to try and identify the year of each vehicle, but I'll see what I can do.

Please don't waste your time on it, Nick... this is just a fun little thing we're up to.

70s, but an exact year I'm not sure. I'm trying to find the newest car in the pic to try and find a year for it.

.

68 to 72 from the van in the lower right corner. I learned body work and paint on a 68, if my memory serves me right. Friend sold it to me and I had the transmission replaced and with a shift kit. I did the head gasket. The shop that did the head work allowed me to tow it to their shop and I worked on it outside on the side parking whenever I had time. Great guys!

White and wide rally rims on BFG's with smaller offset in the front. The front and rear drum brakes stopped on a hundred dollars. Had to plan ahead. The dual exhaust and turbo mufflers out the side were great sounding!

.
Blessings,

BKM

Probably 1975. Could be 1976. Top left corner has a 73 or 74 LTD 4 door front row restaurant has a 75 or 6 Caprice 2 door sitting on it'sright is a 75-78 Marquis. The Marquis is the only body style i see that ran past 76 and it is the only one in the photo. 72 Tbird approaching the light from the right to left, with a 73-75 Buick Century Luxus. Luxus has the Monte Carlo like opera window in back pillar. Under light heading left to right is a 1969 Buick Wildcat 4-door sedan. I remember that world. No 1977 or newer body style cars. Most are early 70s, few mid 70s hence 1975. June

The Caprice was what I thought looked like the newest, too, from the vehicles that can be seen.

My two thoughts -
1. I’m curious where this was. It’s populated almost entirely with big American cars. No Mavericks, no Pintos. Did 1973 have no effect on car buying? I see a Beetle, a Datsun sedan maybe, and a VW Squareback or maybe Datsun wagon.

2. Teibels restaurant is really big, and really popular! Maybe it’s Texas, EVERYthing is big!
