Car top cross bars

I have a volvo XC90, and ordered luggage rack cross bars. I have a car topper I want to put on them to haul camp equipment. I want to put the cross bars, 1 in the center, 1 towards the back of the car. But the rails on top narrow as they get closer to the back of the car so 1 cross bar will not fit. I can't have them too close to the front of the roof because the car topper will cover the sun roof. How to solve this problem? I need one bar 1 1/2 shorter than the other..
