F/Wheel Bearings

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

F/Wheel Bearings

Post by damotu »

Can the front wheel bearings be inspected/repacked on a 02-S80-T6...?
Am getting a bit of a howling noise, especially after the car is completely warmed up and it seems like I can feel thru the steering wheel a very small vibration...The PS pump is full of fluid and no leaks...Many Thanks..

Not sure about your car, but with the 5 lug/108 wheel pattern I would suspect it is the same as other Volvo's (V70/S60 for instance). If this is the case, there is no way to repack the wheel bearings. You have to swap out the old wheel hub for a new one. www.fcpgroton.com has them for about the cheapest. You can also try eeuroparts.com as they have free shipping on everything over $39.

Thanks for the information..Am probably better off taking to dealer...I have the extended warranty and it covers bearings/rotors/discs., most all except the pads themselves..I just thought if it were a simple bearing repack thing, them would be no problem...Thanks again

No problem...glad it's under warranty.
You say you thought it was a simple bearing repacking job, but to be honest, nothing is simpler than just exchanging the bad hub. It shouldn't take the dealer more than half an hour. You shouldn't even need an alignment after this.
