Head Question,940 2L turbo 1991

Doing head gasket,All apart but head needs welding & skimming,Problem is that some of the head waterways seem to be blocked with metal,i would guess from new,it is these that have corroded away.

picture of head gasket as it goes on head. Can anyone confirm that the arrowed should in fact be solid metal.
