04 XC70 Lowering

Post by famfeld »

I would like to lower my stock 04 xc70 like 1 or 2 inches. Does anyone know if I can put V70 suspension on it or does someone sell lowering springs? I just don't need so much ground clearance at the expense of body roll when cornering.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Feld

Others here will know about parts interchangeability. I would assume it would have to be from an AWD V70. When you look at the rear arches of an XC, unless it’s an optical illusion with the plastic trim, I think the wheelbase is shorter that a FWD V70.

Another idea would be to install the IPD sway bars to control body roll. I have them in the garage ready to go on mine.

Thanks,

Maybe I'll go for the IPD sway bars. I also have bad luck with the Lemforder OE control arms going bad after 5 or 10K miles. They are under warranty and I'm good at swapping them out by now, but am looking to sure up the suspension which should feel better than it does, since most parts have been replaced except sway bar bushings.

Yeah, the previous owner of mine had off-brand lower control arms and they wore out fast. I put the HD IPD version on - supposed to be a higher quality of rubber. Plus their HD ball joint.

Thanks for the responses.

I probably will opt for the ipd HD control arms. I think I could probably make HD ones myself as I used to make motor mounts myself. How long have you run the HD ones and how do you rate them?

Couple of years probably. We don’t drive a lot. Good so far.

The best option for lower control arms for quality and economy would be to press new Volvo brand bushings in your old OEM control arms. You may have to take them to a shop with a press if you don't have one but this would be the best option.

So the Lemforder OE control arms they sell at FCP euro aren't the same? I always thought that Lemforder is the manufacturer of Volvo brand control arms. I personally feel for some reason they are of lower quality due to my issues with the horizontal bushing getting soft after a year or so. This is what I have seen, but I always trusted FCP and thought they were OE making them as good as Volvo.
