You can make some real money driving an XC90 for Lyft

Post by matthew1 »

... apparently(!). I don't know this first hand, but I'm doing some research.
For example, in Orange County, the rate per mile for standard Lyft is $1.06, Lux is $2.41, Lux Black is $3.61, and Lux Black XL is $3.76.
https://www.ridester.com/lyft-lux/

2.4 X standard is quite a jump, and if it's black, 3.6 X standard is bonkers. Hell, I'd wear a driver's hat and gloves.

The XC90 must be 2015+ for Lux, and 2017+ for Lux Black (and must be black exterior color  ). Oddly, the XC90 qualifies for the highest-end Lyft service, Lux Black XL, but I'm assuming it must have the 7-seat configuration, because that's the point of Lux Black XL.

Yes, I'm considering buying one and making money driving it, or renting it with Turo. https://turo.com/

I’ve often wondered about the rideshares as a part time retirement gig (I’m a ways away). If you were already thinking of getting an XC90 that doesn’t seem a bad deal. Generally I question whether the income covers wear and tear and depreciation.

This endeavor requires one to treat the Volvo as a business machine, no emotional attachment.

I'd make the XC90 a work machine and personal car. I would think of it as my personal car that's used as a work car. The work would pay the note, and the revenue above that is income.

Those payments wouldn't be a small number, even used. The sweet spot would be probably a 2019 or 2020 XC90.

I’d have to spreadsheet this (don’t tempt me) but the cost per mile for a SPA car has to be 2x what it is for a Lincoln Navigator or Cadillac Escalade. Our parts are more expensive, high end fluids are mandatory as is 91 octane gas. Moreover, even with the stock mechanical suspension, you’d be pounding that 6000lb car up and down the LA freeways on 30 series summer tires whereas the domestic alternatives ride on 70 series light truck tires. As well, both GM & Ford have naturally aspirated V-8’s and we’ve got a high compression, direct injection masterpiece. If I was going to put 100,000 a year on a big SUV it would be the Lincoln, parts are cheap and anyone can work in them. My $0.02.
Looking for a V90 to be my next Volvo, at the very least a T5.

2017 XC90 Inscription - My best Volvo by far, but Ex-wife departed & I had to sell. 😕
2001 S80 T6 - rebuilt trans, head gasket, fixed & sold
1997 V70 - kid car, sold
1996 850 GLT - found under bridge, 2 year refurb project, commuter car, kid car, T-Boned - SIPS saved passenger. Totaled.
1997 VW GTI VR6 - exceedingly fast.
1971 VW Type II/231 - it was pointed out by management that the children would be killed in it.
