While manual swapping my tranny today I saw that there were pink stains in various areas of the motor, mostly close to coolant ports and a freeze plug.
My coolant level is quite steady, so we are not talking about real coolant loss, but a hint of coolant smell every now and then and pink residue on the motor.
I know I am not running the original Volvo coolant, but haf the impression my indie used coolant suitable for aluminum blocks when I had him replace various coolant hoses 2 or 3 years ago.
Could this be a sign that my coolant is ruining my motor? I will swap to Volvo coolant immediately, but I am wondering if I did major damage to the motor already.
wrong coolant

No worries. It wouldn't, and didn't, hurt the engine.

That's good to hear. This pink residue is just weird. I have 3 850ies and parted one out. And I've never seen anything like that.
