V70 tailgate hinges and wiring a rear dash-cam

I fitted my dash cam to the V70 at the weekend and after spending over an hour threading the cable to the rear I discovered there was no way to get the cable into the tailgate

Does anyone have a solution to get the cable (it has a 3.5mm right angle jack plug on the end) from the roof lining into the tailgate for a rear dash cam. Unlike the XC90 and 850 the V70 has a welded metal plate with a rubber seal round it to prevent water ingress. The original wire goes through the plate and is a tight fit, it then goes into the rubber tube/grommet and I can't see any way of putting my cable in. Yes the plastic cap covering the wires comes off but that doesn't help

After a lot of head scratching I've found a way to wire in the rear dash camera. The V70 tailgate hinges are different to other cars in the fact they have a metal plate which holds a rubber seal to prevent water ingress. On the passenger side (UK vehicle) the wires go through the plate and there is no way to get another cable in there without causing mayhem. However the driver side (UK vehicle) only has the window washer tube going in there and with the tube removed and the grommet out there was just enough space to get the 2.5mm jack plug through. All stitched up and back together now and another job ticked off the list

I ran three AWG 14 or 16 wires to rear view camera without much problems. The only thing is I didn't know that rubber nipple near the hinge is exactly for extra wiring, like mine. Instead, I punched a hole in the seal.

Cut the end of the nipple, it is there for your extra wiring.

Okay in theory but you've still got to get the cable from the headlining to the nipple without letting water in, there's no route through unless you go through the original grommet

Maybe. I don't remember. I installed it in 2013 or so. It is 2023, it didn't leak yet. Boston is wet in winter. Gets some real floods in summer.
