From what I'm reading I assume the resistor is shot. Fan is always running. On/off or speeds don't respond to ECC changes.
I have a resistor pulled from a junk yard car. It looked pretty fresh. Does anybody have specs for testing one before installing?
ECC fan control resistor. Any way to test one off car?

I can offer up my inconclusive measurements using a transistor tester in situ (ie without removing the FET for testing):

I believe it receives a PCM signal, so it's not merely a resistor pack...

I have a used HVAC resistor pulled from a 96 850. I notice that FCP designates a different one for the 93-95's. What will happen if I plug in the 96 resistor in my 93 ECC?
Also, the 96 resistor has a few blemishes on one vane and the other vanes are a bit soiled. Can those vanes be cleaned? Is there a special coating on them that could be easily damaged?

My memory is that those vanes are made from aluminum, and usually it's extruded. I bet it won't hurt to clean or scrub the aluminum. If there is a special coating like anodization and you remove it during cleaning, the aluminum will re-form a self passivating aluminum oxide layer that can resist further corrosion.
