Picked up probably the cheapest running V70R in new england

Post by levalexi »

I picked this monstrosity up the other day. Not sure what my plans are with it yet.

It could be fixed and brought back down to earth. They cut away at some important bits of metal that I'll have to weld back together.

I think it might be worth fixing. The interior is great, still has the v70R floor mats

I'll take some more pictures later. I still need to comb through the underside. The AWD still works.

There is a guy on here who might buy that rear toe link - especially since it will be cheaper to ship in a smaller box.

Someone has RRecked that RRR.
Look at the leverage on those poor hubs. Front fenders you could replace with used, back will need splicing in.

Here's some more pics I took. I have a 98xc I'm scrapping soon, so I'm thinking about swapping off the fenders and hood. And cutting the body panels I need to weld back on for the rears.

Probably going to take all the AWD stuff off it too just as spares. I know the 98 and 99 angle gears are different, but it'll work as long as I have the matching axle.

The underside from the pictures does not look too terrible in terms of rust. Now the mechanical side of stuff looks like it came from a ship wreck! Man is that stuff rusty.

I'm not sure the rear axles are different, but the fronts are between a 98 and 99, changing from an axle nut to a torque to yield bolts into the end of the axle. The main differences are the diameters of the prop-shaft end flanges and the output flange on the angle gear and the input flange to the VC unit.

If you don't want the AWD stuff, you can always swap the rear parts for FWD as bmdubya did on his 2000 R.

Good Luck!

Neil.

I believe I saw that car on Facebook Marketplace years ago. Kind of thought it was a myth, but here it is. Under the hood cup, is there a smoke stack directly venting the exhaust manifold to the air? And I thought my black V70 rescue project was a lot of work.

Already posted it there. Once a year ago when I saw it for sale and now after I bought it. And under that cup is a pipe dumping straight from the turbo 😂

Compared to my daily 00v70xc and the 98 v70xc my dad gave me, that hardware is in mint condition. My daily has no dust shields left. On the 98 the rear subframe has actually corroded away! Attached is the right rear from the 98. You can see one of the subframe bolts...

I've actually been considering a fwd swap to my daily. I haven't had the angle gear on it for years and working on that fuel pump has had me ripping my hair out

Geronimo has met its match for rust. I'm starting to think ME inspection must be as lenient as I imagined since Geronimo regularly passed there.

When you remove any unidentifiably rusted parts from your cars, do post them to the Name That Rusty Part game. MVS points are at stake!
