I failed to replace the automatic transmission cooler lines on my 2000 V70 NA. I couldn't unscrew the hose at the top of the transmission valve body. It requires the 22 mm nut and 22 mm wrench counterhold. Do you have any suggestions about how I could remove it?
Tangentially, can I remove that upper transmission cooler line without losing too much transmission fluid? I'm tempted to do the flush now if there would only be slight loss.
Thanks for any input. I've got to replace these poorly repaired transmission lines and do my fluid flush.

If the 'nut' portion has refused to move, Abscates' trick of a dremel cut on the side of the 'nut' should help release it.
Another option, is to cut the hose off the top of the nut and use a wrench and a 22mm socket to try to move it. With the rusted pipe no longer acting as a brake it should undo. They can be a swine to move!
Good Luck!
Neil.

I think I would drain it, then take the cover off to get that up on the bench where real tool can be applied

Can I replace this line without draining the transmission? The other end goes to the bottom of the radiator, a low point which could drain. Perhaps I can quickly disconnect the radiator bottom line and reconnect the new one. But can I disconnect the transmission top line with no fluid spilling out?
I ask because I had drained the transmission to replace the lines and do a flush. Failure to remove the top line forced me to refill with new fluid in order to leave the public workspace I use. I don't want to waste those four quarts and would like to continue on flushing eight quarts through.
I've read that removing the value body cover is more involved than I can afford, requiring lifting the engine a tad to gain clearance. I have decent access with the battery tray out.
Cutting is my next option but failing to reinstall leaves me stranded. Cutting the nut is the best move if I don't damage the threads on the body. That or cut the line and put an impact wrench on the nut. Failing after cutting the nut might not strand me but failing after cutting the line leaves me stuck. It's risky.

Be careful cutting that until you understand how it seals, as you don’t want to nip the sealing swage.
That pipe only holds 150-200 ml of fluid or so, so you could disconnect it at radiator top and limit the flow into a pile of rags
Be careful putting torque on that fastener too, it is just sheet metal cover and won’t be really strong in tension

Do you think I could damage the transmission valve body components by applying significant inductive heat to that top nut? Cutting didn't work so well with that O2 sensor I tried. But I don't want the heat to travel down and bake the sensitive solenoids, electronics, etc under that cover. Thanks.

It’s attached to the sheet metal cover. Heat away
