1997 850 T5 Springs

Post by Annihilator »

Hi all, I'm about to replace my original struts on my '97 T5 sedan and am contemplating on also changing out the springs. Car has about 200k on it. The front Volvo springs are marked green part number 3546642. FCP only shows oem Volvo springs, which are out of my price range. I am interested in the Lesjofors but am confused on which ones to buy.

Volvo # 3546642 cross to Lesjofors 4095832.
Rockauto shows the 4095838 for my T5 and 4094832 for non T5.
FCP shows the 4095838 for C70/S70/V70.

Anyone have any insight?
Thanks
Adam

Check your ride height first. A lot of folks replace perfectly good springs without sound reason

Front springs should be fine unless they are broken. New struts will make a much bigger difference than new springs.

Rear springs are more likely to sack out due to overloading.

I've also been struggling with T5 springs. My research (for a 1998) found that Lesjofors 4095832 cross reference to 3546642 marked green as you found. A local enthusiast said he installed these on his 1998 T5M and they feel great.

I'm not sure which trim level the 4095838 are for or which part/color they cross reference to. My 1998 T5M requires 3546643 marked yellow but those are discontinued and no Lesjofors parts cross reference to them. Your best bet is the greens that you found.

Or don't replace them like the other people say. I've heard that advice a lot too. I'm replacing mine because they're lowering and I want the normal height back.

Sorry for the delay. My front ride height measures around 25 1/4 on each side with stock wheels/tires at 36psi. What do you guys think?

Now it is for the 98-00 cars, but Green marked is what is listed for my V70R front springs. They are slightly heavier duty than the yellow.

Keep in mind new struts won't change the ride height. Buying strut assemblies will save some time and aggravation, but name brand units can be a bit spendy. When I get home tomorrow I'll measure the 850s in my fleet - if the temperature gets below 90.
My '99 NA stands an inch taller, dunno if that means anything at all.

Their website only lists one spring for the front, although I couldn't force the search engine to show me T5 stuff
https://web.tecalliance.net/lesjofors/e ... umber:5705

As I mentioned my '99 V70NA measures ca. 26.5"
I'll be home later today and check the fleet, but one of my 850s is on lowered springs and struts - which I don't think is ideal.

Just as I suspected, my '99 V70 NA is the outlier. Everything else in the fleet ( don't ask ) measures 25 1/4 - 25 3/4, with the exception of the new 850R wagon, TunerFanBoy lowered to just under 24" ( See "don't ask", above.) Yes, stuff scrapes. Yes, the lowering gear will be for sale shortly.
My suggestion would be to let the springs ride some more. My old XC still has originals at 325k.
