Capital Auto Auction finds in DC, MD, Philly, NH

Post by FireFox31 »

Here's a thread for good cars found at the public Capital Auto Auction in DC, MD, Philly, and NH.

For sale 7/15/23, a lovely Nautic Blue 2000 S70 with garage kept interior. Door card arm rests are barely shrunk, seats are 95% perfect, leather wheel isn't worn. 162k miles, ABS lights and evap codes, replace the oil cap gasket. Looks like a very solid car.

While I'm not interested in 90 series cars, this one looks pretty clean.

Looks like it was Somebody's Car, as opposed to being an apartment parking lot abandoned stray.

Pair of Bugs, no full frontal shots of this one for some reason, may be a dealer consignment

I posted the Maserati and the 911 elsewhere.
Not interested in those, either. I'm right on the verge of having enough stuff.

A 911 though. Now that would be a project worth taking on. Was that the red one with failing clear coat with current bid of $37k? Wild.

Saw it too late to make a bookmark bid, it may have sold since it's not in inventory now. Those motors are known to have oiling issues it seems, usually fatal. Lots of folks doing the LS cure. Ends up being lighter, faster, and cheaper.

1987 Lotus Esprit Turbo, the auction house misidentified it as S2

While I did bid, it would've been a steep learning curve - given the note on the windshield.
Looks to have been parked under the oak tree out back.

Hammered for $13,400 plus fees - on an "IF" sale, which means reserve not met.
I dropped out way early.

Does Barbara Bach come with it, and can I shoot down a helicopter while underwater ?

As a kid, I was driven past a Lotus dealership a few times. Finally stopped in to admire the Lotus Esprit Turbo. Sexy and all, but still no Delorean.

I wonder if that car sold for parts. Would take intense restoration to fix that interior, especially with mold. And for the mechanicals, sure an old Porsche might still have parts available, but would a Lotus? I'm nervous about keeping a 25 year old P80 on the road with parts going NLA.

It's dangerous learning that I could find a Porsche or old non-Volvo wagon at Capital. Was much nicer when I only scanned the 240, P80, and P2s.

A lot of the Lotus mechanicals and electrics and light units/covers are from other large manufacturers, so in Europe parts are easier to find. Always recommend joining a brand specific owners club as the knowledge is usually vast and can help find sources for many parts.

So sorry, not quite so scary!
