2001 Volvo V70 2.4t car rolling in park after valve body change

Hi folks.

Just did a valve body replacement and all went well. Shifting like a dream. New problem arose though. Gear shifter very stiff and car is rolling in park. No grinding or anything. I only let it roll a foot if that. Any ideas? The internal linkage came out when putting the valve body in, had to replace the valve body harness and didn't realize the pnp post could just drop out like that. I got it back together though and as stated, car goes into all gears fine and shifts like new.....just rolling in park. PNP switched damaged, misaligned?

Could you have done what I did? Take a look at the photo, I installed the L shaped rod from the bottom into the shift lever arm, should be installed from the top, photo shows what not to do. I fixed this screw up before I put the transmission back in the car so I don't know if it would have affected park or not, but this does connect to the long rod that engages the parking pawl so this could be the problem.

Yeah, need to redo linkage correctly. I did the same mistake like firstv70volvo did.

Thanks fellas! I'll have to take her apart again. Not sure how I put it in there.....argh. One more thing, the long rod is going into a blind hole. How does it connect inside? Does it just push against something? The rod came out and wondering if I just got lucky getting it back in.

With the valve body removed you're going to also have to remove the PRNDL switch from the selector shaft/lever linkage. The selector shaft needs to be rotated enough to get the long rod linkage end out of the lever so you can reorient it to the top side of the lever.
Just FYI, don't feel too bad if this was installed incorrectly, I have an ATSG tech manual for this transmission (paid $50 for it) and it has a one picture (figure 236) in it with this shifter linkage installed incorrectly and this is with 13 Technical Consultant names listed at the beginning of the manual.

:faceplam: That probably explains why I did the mistake (have that manual as well).

I just want to say thank you. Took her apart and got it back together in record time. I'm laughing at myself about that picture. I didn't remember there being a spring on the rod and didn't even realize that was it lol. Really appreciate the pictures and insight. I would have been goofing around with the pnp for days trying to figure it out. Cheers!
