Volvo 850 320mm brake upgrade

Post by Randomnamegenerator »

Hello All,

Looking ahead to future upgrades and I am curious if anyone has done the 320mm upgrade with the 16" Persus wheels on their car. If so did you have to skim the calipers or they fit without issue?

I have read that you must skim the calipers to fit with 16" Columbia wheels. Just want to confirm this is not the case for the Perdus wheels.

Thanks in advance

320mm? 302mm upgrade?

I know there was a very rare option for a larger than 302mm upgrade but it only fitted inside 17" wheels. I herd of it though a friend in Europe.

320mm on 16's? No go.

As far as the 302mm upgrade. They "fit" on the Persus, but are so close that it's not recommended. Columbas need the caliper shaved.

The car a Platinum? Why set on the Persus?

Perfos clear just fine, as do a few others.

Thanks Chuck, the car is a AWD.

I was keen on the Persus there is a set close by and all the adds for the AWD shows it with Persus so I think they would suit the car.

I will just wait till a set of Perfos comes up thats not on the other side of the country.

If you really meant 302, some of the enthusiasts on swedespeed have used them with spacers, but if you have to go much over 5mm you'll need longer lug bolts.
Grinding the casting lugs off the edges of the calipers isn't a big job, if done with some care.

P2 16" wheels work, and obviously 17" wheels will work too.

We had Perfos on her car until it was time for new tires, so we went back to Neptunes.

Those Neptune's look sweet on the 850, I am trying to stick to 16" though.

Do the P2 16" have a different offset to the P80 wheels? I'm curious why the P2 16" would all fit but that's not the case with the P80s

They were designed with large brake clearance in mind, whereas most of the the P80 wheels were not.

The offsets and center bores are the same for the 16" wheels and bolt on. The only difference is that the P2's use a 14mm lug bolt, while the P80s use a 12mm. I've run P2 wheels on the 850s with no problems with the 12mm lugs,

Not related, but applicable
Those Neptunes are from the XC90's which also have a different center bore, thus I run them lug-centric, instead of hub-centric. The center bores are so close in size, that it's hard to get a hub adapter that holds up. I know how to tighten a wheel properly, so I've never had any issues running wheels lug centric.
