I've been trying to help our friend Blacklab on an error code his car likes to spit out ECM-1100. I loaned him my Autel 802 and it pulled this code. He re-set it and it came straight back.
It appears to be saying there is an issue with the engine air temp sensor. I know where the sensors are on a P80 but not a P2, added to that it supposedly changed in 02 to 03 onwards.
I can find a part number listed for an IAT sensor. On an 03 is it on the intercooler pipe to the ETM like on a P80 or somewhere else?
The P80's also have another ambient air sensor on the air flow into the radiator area. Is this what changed in 03, this moved?
I have also read that the MAP sensor and air temp sensor were merged into one part?
All very confusing!
Any help appreciated.
Neil.

Thanks jones, I did replace that one, we were wondering if there was another one somewhere else. Trying to resolve this CEL!

The mirror sensor is for exterior temperature display, not intake air.
Haynes paper manual says on 2003 and up turbo engines the intake air temperature sensor is incorporated in the boost pressure sensor. The boost pressure sensor is fitted to a hose between the intake manifold and the turbo pressure servo.
This sounds a bit confusing to me, but this is what Haynes says.

This is the response I got from another Volvo Master tech I know:
The model you are referring to indeed has temperature sensors in both mirrors:
According to the wiring diagram the temperature sensor in the driver’s mirror is for the ECM reference. This is the comparator for the Intake Air Temperature. A deviance between these two sensors would result in the trouble code triggering.
The temperature sensor in the passenger mirror would provide the signal for the DIM, instrument cluster displayed ambient temperature.
I would recommend comparing the IAT sensor reading to the mirror ambient air temperature sensor to see which sensor you should be focusing on in the diagnostics. If it is indeed the mirror temperature sensor that is reading out of range then start tracing the wiring from the sensor back to the ECM. Areas to focus on: wiring within the mirror, ensure wiring integrity from sensor to mirror connector (where it connects to door harness). If that checks out, then move on the mirror connector to the A-pillar main door connector. Sometimes with all the opening/closing of the door, the wiring work-hardens and becomes brittle, wiring insulation could break and short. If that all checks out then you are tracing the wiring back to the ECM.
IAT is in the engine compartment and dependent on model and model year. Usually integral to the MAF.
Need to work this out. I think he says MAF, but I think it is part of the MAP sensor. If it is the MAF, then it could be the MAF is bad or dirty?
Neil.
