Since I'm skinnt, the house needs a roof, the heatpump chose just now to give up, and I don't really have a spot for more yard art, it went elsewhere.
Would've been cool to have a thousand horsepower single radial engine 12,000 pound beast for a bit.

In ground effect it would fly at 35 mph.
The procedure following engine failure went something like this:
1) Pull yoke back into lap.
2) Wait.
Apparently there are plenty of verified accounts of pilots doing just that, and after the thump, everybody just gets out of the plane and waits for another ride ( it could carry 12 ).
Stall speed listed in the operators handbook is "Zero".

I don't know a lot about planes, but those specs sound great.

Stall speed loosely tells you when it falls from the sky. That speed is so slow that you basically land almost standing still, so it’s totally survivable even with no engine

Does this mean it could take off straight up in a 5 knot headwind?

There’s a video someplace of a contest in Alaska for shortest take-off time, and funky bush plane with huge tires is in the air in 3 or 4 feet. It doesn’t look real.

No, but 35-ish it will. There's a guy up in the Northeast that does an airshow stunt when the wind is right where he gets close to the runway and fiddles with power so it keeps flying, but goes backwards.
If you go to Juan Browne's Y/T channel (blancolirio) he is the PA announcer for the STOL Drags, where purpose-built planes can take off in a plane length or 2, but the competition involves landing, full stop,180 degree turn, and takeoff. Very entertaining, and a very expensive hobby.
There is one Kawasaki powered one that turns well over 10,000 rpm.
He has links to regular coverage.

This is a guy Juan mentions, wins a lot.

Then there's this guy - keep in mind he built it himself, starting with a Wilga STOL airframe.

Dragged the Lincoln out of the way, aired up the tires, slapped the wheels on it and pulled it out into the street on its own gear. Must've been quite the sight crossing the Bay Bridge.
