How to remove H7 socket from headlight (98 s70 GLT)
Hello fellow Volvo drivers! I'm having an issue with my right headlight, it doesn't work after a bulb change. The connector is in pretty bad shape. I'd like to start by taking the socket out and replacing it, only issue is I have no clue how to get it out.

I have done this by just removing the headlight. It is only held in by 3 x 10mm hex bolts (they are quite long!) on the back of the light unit.
You have to first remove the turn signal. At the inner side nearest the headlight under the hood, there is a plastic tab that needs to be pressed down a few millimeters with a screwdriver tip (be careful as they get brittle with age and can break). Once it has been depressed the sidelight should pull straight out. Again, careful as there are 2 slim guide tabs that can be broken if you don't slide it straight out. I've attached a link to FCP Euro which shows the back of the light in the 2nd picture as well as the tab that needs pushed down.

There is a push tab clip to remove the light housing and then you can remove the headlight from the front. If you have headlight wipers, you may have to turn them so the outer end points forwards. The light will then pull out over and out. Reverse to re-fit.
Again, ensure you have lined the tabs on the sidelight into their slots and it should slide straight back and click when the tab has locked.
This will gibe you the best access to the headlight to swap the harness out. I believe you can still get the wiring harness part in the headlight. FCP has one from Volvo but I think there is a cheaper version out there aftermarket:

Good Luck!
Neil.

Some cars suffer from crumbling head light wires likely caused by heat. Inspect your car for this failure. There should be some replacement H7 sockets available to splice into your wiring after removing the damage.
