Are there are other options to replacing the indash fan other than the dealers $225 unit + labor?- 1981- 204 wagon

try your near by salvage yard(s) for a used one, or take you motor out and clean it up. You can actually take it out from the driver's side w/o removing the entire heater. You just want the motor out, not the whole heater unit. You will also have to take the panel off from the passenger's side in order to remove the "squirrel-cage" fan. The whole fan motor is removed from the driver's side. Takes a lot of time, but it can be done because I did it.
