'05 V70 N/A Transmission fluid change. Disaster?
As mentioned, I recently acquired a '05 V70 with a little over 180K miles. I've thought to change the transmission fluid based on age. I looked at a YouTube video and they mention that a fluid change, by itself, can ruin the transmission. No explanation is offered. Is this the case? Should I simply wait until there is something seriously wrong?

Just drop 3-4 liters at a time in a series of “ drain and fills” , Faust.
The anecdotes of flushes killing transmissions are ones that are already dead.
The Toyota fluid is cheaper than the Volvo brand and I * believe* guru Jimmy57 reports Valvoline Dex VI synthetic is also fine for the P2 trans. Please check that *fact*

I would drain and fill too. If not using Volvo fluid would also recommend Lubeguard HFM after your second flush.

Video is very wrong. Do a couple drain and fills, driving a few dozen miles between each. Get the Genuine Volvo fluid from FCP and you’ll never have to buy fluid again. Make sure to fill it through the dipstick, and reset fluid counters in vida afterwards

A transmission tech wrote "take a bit of fluid from the dipstick and rub it between your fingers, if it feels like water then the lube quality is lost, it serves no purpose to keep it in the case.".......makes sense to me.
Trans pump runs higher pressure than a flush machine, a flush will not damage anything.
The counter guys at franchise auto part stores keep repeating this stuff. They like to sound like experts.
The parrot has no song of its own.

I've seen them screwed up from power flushes - it's not worth the risk. Machines that use the transmission's internal pump, as well as the Gibbons method with removing the cooler lines, is fine and won't hurt anything.
Unless it's completely black and smells incredibly burned, change it.
