'88 740 / trunk lid lifting hydraulics

Post by petershen1984 »

Has anyone had their trunk lifter hydraulics replaced? Mines have lost lifting power. What range could I expect for repairing? I've been hurt several times already by the sharp edge of the trunk lid. Although, this is not as important as my in-tank fuel pump or adjusting kick-down as several have mentioned. Thanks!! :-)

Yes, I have. It is rather normal that you have to change them. Especially when the weather is getting colder they are weaker. You don't have to buy origin parts, but a good advice is to buy good spareones with equal quality, avoid buying those made in Asia. The origin is made in Germany. In Europe the price is 50 USD for those. You can start replacing just the weakest!

Thanks a lot! I think both pumps are dead - I have to hold the lid open or use this "cane" . Estimates here (Taiwan) for original parts is around 150 US dollars for one pair, I think. I could imagine why not use Asian-made pumps! They were designed to support lighter cars..
