Problem after dashboard replacement

Post by perhss70 »

I replaced my dashboard. Pulled the old one out, changed the harness from the old to the new and added the new one back. I have a problem... No speaker works except the two tweeters on the dashboard, I have an aftermarket radio. Any clues or/and any insight on what should I do. I also have a small black connector with 2 wires near the big master connector that I can't seem to find where to put it. Thanks in advance

Why did you messed with harness anyway?
They are all the same and already prewired for more loaded models.

Unless you used a dash from '99 or '00 p80.
They have different harness.

The harness from the new dashboard was cut in some places.

I've never replaced a dash but are you saying the new dash has the new harness built in? If possible go back to the old harness and old equipment to see if things still function normally. Hope you didn't short anything with the new setup?
.

Do you have a separate amplifier with your radio either behind the center of the dashboard or under the passenger seat?

If not, then the 2 larger connectors to the back of the original radio ran the wires to all the speakers. I would check that there are not 2 harnesses that should be connected to the radio and in the rebuild one did not get reconnected. You will need to find a radio wiring diagram to follow which cables go where.

This thread has a wiring diagram for a 98 P80 included that may help:

I replaced my dashboard with a used one I had and I used the old harness because the new one was cut in some places. I will check the diagram maybe I fried my radio if that's possible

Attached is the picture of the connector I can't seem to find where it goes. Probably it's not related with the radio

Did you get the wiring copied over correctly for your radio? Are you maybe missing a connector?

I am certain that the wiring is correct. Is there a possibility that I fried the radio somehow since when I removed the dashboard I forgot to remove the battery. I don't think there is a fuse for specifically the door speakers. When I have time I will prolly check the radio connector for resistance.

Aftermarket radio should have euro connectors...so you couldn't fry it.
Even if it doesn't have them...it have a fuse which would blow on short.
