Parking Brake not working one side - 04 XC70

Post by br0dy519 »

Finished a 6 hour job doing both rear brakes and cables yesterday. Driver side parking brake still will not engage. My front cable looks like below, what could the issue be? Expander expands, and took a liquid wrench bath. Passenger side works great. It’s like my cable wont freely move in the housing itself, is it possible something is holding it up?

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

i would disconnect it from the backplate and see if it moves when free.
or just install a new cable.

if the sheathing got nicked and moister got into the cable...its done.

i did mine 4 yrs ago, all new cables, the T and front threaded adjuster and i don't think i've ever used it 3 times since.

.
Agree, should check the back plate first. May have come off or broke off due to age also.
.

Gave up. One New cable was seized out of the box somehow, and both rear backplates had rusted out where the spring enters, so just deleted parking brake for now.

Want to enjoy labour day, might return the cable and pick up a couple new backplates at the junk yard. Do you have to remove the rear wheel bearings to get the back plate out ?
