2007 xc90 3.2l fwd key fob housing replacement

Recently I replaced my key fob housings due to damage the fobs worked last night (lock, unlock, trunk, lights, emergency alarm) this morning I went to leave and the car is unresponsive. I put the key in the ignition and turn it and nothing happens. All the lights come on (headlights, interior lights etc). No starter clicking not a sound. The fobs cases have the original key blade installed and the guts from the original fob the only thing that has changed is the plastic case that houses the original fob parts. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Is there a chip buried down in the plastic housings of the original fobs or something else that I’m missing?

Fob is an RF control basically, 315 or 433 megahertz. Key has a small transponder in it that's authorized to the vehicle, what allows the starter to turn. You get nothing on the information screen (lower left of your instrument panel)?

Can see here for some key visuals- viewtopic.php?p=144896 , there is some comment in the thread about a no-start that was resolved by doing lock/unlock 5 times, I have no idea if this works or not, but it seemed worth mentioning.

Might also try a negative lead battery disconnect (wait 5-10 minutes after running the vehicle) and leave it disconnected for 30 minutes or so, then reconnect (key in POSII before you do). Lock and unlock vehicle a few times (5) after it's powered up, see if that make any difference.

Between those two things you might find relief, otherwise it's something to do with your key transponder authorization I think.

If I can’t get it working from these steps there are aftermarket keys with the fob and transponder considerably cheaper could these be programmed to work with my car? The dealer quoted2 keys with fobs at $1273.66. Wow this is outrageous.

I found a mechanic shop that has a key cloning tool and he made me 2 keys for $50. If anyone needs to go this route you have to be able to provide 1 working key. In my case I was lucky I had the working valet key (since the fob keys were not working)that came with the car to copy. The little glass transponder was bad/broken he put in new ones in my replacement housing and programmed them to my car.
