Hi Everyone,
Considering selling my 2004 6MT V70R. Black exerior, light tan interior (not Atacama, but khaki coloured.) I have another car (Jag XE) up for sale but need to make some room and it's somewhat of a 'list both whichever sells first' situation.
Curious where people feel values are. I can see stuff on BringaTrailer, and not 100% sure where my car would fit in.
Exterior/Cosmetically I give it a 5. It's not terrible but there's a few worn out mouldings, some spotting in the clearcoat on the roof and a couple small scratches. Did replace most of the vinyl trims, and there's no dents or dings to speak of.
Mechanically it's pretty solid. 130,000 miles. I bought it 8 years ago at about 115,000. Realized pretty soon after buying that the timing belt + head gasket job that had been recently done wasn't done properly and it was weeping coolant into the bore. That led to pulling the motor, and rebuilding with shimmed block, forged rods/pistons, gas flowed head, 11 blade compressor in a rebuild turbo and a new clutch with TTV flywheel. We've done a bunch of the IPD stuff like springs, trans brace, camber correction kit and a good ECU Tune, and a full turbo back exhaust. I'd guess we're at 400BHP & 400 ft/lbs.
Roughly 10K miles on the motor and all aforementioned mods. Interior is overall pretty good, a little discolouration & split stitching on driver's seat. Stuff that the next owner could do to elevate the car would probably be a wet sand & polish on the clear coat, and going through to replace a few of the things like rubber trims & mouldings externally.
Hard for me to figure out what a reasonable value is. I see cars that are better cosmetically, similar miles at maybe $25K on BAT. But don't have rebuilt engines & so on.
What do you all think?

It is hard to value. For me the bodywork is more important as that is where cars can get expensive and I don't have the skills to do the work.
First thing people see is the bodywork and make their evaluations based on that. It's like an interview. If you walk in and are not dressed appropriately, or a unshaven, whatever, you are already on the about turn for the door. Doesn't make a hoot what you know.
People that know these cars pay the big money for the stock cars, not the modified ones. You will always get a very small group of enthusiasts who like the modified mechanicals.
Is your car a US import or have you converted the notes from km? If it is a US car, it may have more value south of the border. US imports have typically a lower value here in Canada from my experience.
The value on manual 'R' S60/V70's are all over the place where I am and on FBM and CL in Alberta and BC. I can see them from $3-4000 to $20000k being asked for them. There are a lot of 'throw a number and see if it sticks' ads for cars. They usually stay listed for months and don't sell.
My suggestion would be look at the ads out there today for these cars and base a value from there. Maybe start at $10-12k CDN? The lower mileage may help, but they can be hard cars to sell depending on the service history.
This is only my opinion, but hopefully it will get the ball rolling.
I can't see a V70R for sale currently, but this is what makes valuing harder:

This is a 2004 S60R - Bad pictures and a blown turbo. Not clear if the 198k is miles or km as the seller says the car in in miles. So a US import. $3500 CDN

This is a CDN S60R. Asking $13,500 CDN. It is an auto so I think this is way over priced. However, it does look really clean.
On the other hand, in Vancouver there is this 166,000 mile import. Trans issue, and the owner started at $12k and is now at $10.5k CDN. Interior is filthy.

This is the only manual V70R, again in BC. Has nearly 200,000 miles, paintwork issues, fairly tidy. Started at $9k and now down to $8.5. Car looks fairly tidy for mileage.
There is nothing on CL in Vancouver area other than the listing for the cheap S60R which may be the same one as the first one above.
Apologies if you don't have FBM access
Neil.
