Set screws for an electric scooter - question on what/where to buy Topic is solved

My son wrecked weeks ago on his Segway Ninebot F2 Pro and I'm getting around to fixing the steering. It's not 1:1 connected to the front fork, and I just yesterday figured it out... the set screws got sheared off.

Question: is that term correct? "Set screws"?

If so, where should I look to buy them? Any tips on measuring or estimating size and type?

I need to find replacements, and the Segway parts page is terrible https://parts.segway.com.au/collections/f2-pro ... the images for almost all screws do not load, so I can't make a visual confirmation if one of those products is what I need.

Steering column = black tube
Fork shaft = white tube

The sheared leftovers (closeup photo) I removed from the steering column. The other halves of the sheared screws are still embedded in the white plastic of the fork shaft. There are (were) two set screws located 180° opposing.

Found a couple email addresses and emailed them essentially what I wrote here [email protected] and [email protected]

These look like standard SET SCREWS. They may be Metric or SAE threads depending on country of design. Just match the thread size and the length. Set screws come in different tip designs - flat, serrated, and dog end (a smaller diameter smooth end). Examine the mating part to see if there is a smaller mating hole. Yours look to be plated or aluminum. Unplated (black) should be just fine.
Then go to your local hardware and buy at reasonable prices.
Use typical broken bolt removal practice to get out the ends.

Set screws have 2 main variants. One has the flat base like your pictures of the Amazon pack shows, then there is the 2nd type that has a pointed end to bite into a surface to lock it in place.

Got the ends removed finally... had to file a slot and unscrew them. I thought they'd be deeper, but they were surprisingly short/shallow. They're flat. Ordered that kit I posted of above. If one of the kit set screws fits, I'm back in business.

The alternative I had as Plan B was $60 w/ shipping – an entire fork assembly. The parts system for Segway is very thin and entirely non-comprehensive. I never wanted to know anything at all about the Segway parts ecosystem, but here I am.

Followup – flawless victory. One of the sizes in the set screw kit was perfect. I think it was the longer M3. Right length, right diameter, right thread pitch.

Everything is back together and road tested, and it's now charging in its home in the garage.

My only complaint is that all my hex drivers are Imperial not metric. Metric I find to be 9/10 hexes I deal with. So I had to shell out a big $12 or so at Harbor Freight for a 100 piece hex/star/security driver kit.
