P0016 power train code, camshaft sensor wires?

2004 Volvo xc70, 130k miles.

Finished a head gasket replacement and now am seeing OBD code P0016, description "Crank-Cam position correlation"

There are no other codes and I've not yet set up the Vida-dice system. I noticed though that the intake cam position sensor wires are particularly worn - see below.

Should I re-solder the wires, or is this a sign that I screwed up the alignment of the VVT cams when I put the timing belt back on?

I had this problem on the 02 XC70 I was helping with. Being an 02 it only have a cam position sensor on the exhaust. I see yours has inlet and probably exhaust.

I tried swapping a bunch of parts as the code is not specific. We still had it at the end. The only ting I did not have time to do was check the timing belt. A new one had been fitted by a non-Volvo shop a few months previously.

Hopefully you can find the issue, but it doesn't do any harm to check the timing belt is timed correctly.

vida will give a more definitive code than that.
On mine it said "cam signal out of range", no kiddin, the cam sensor was loose, it couldn't get a steady signal.

When I had the head of I reset the timing per the standard instruction. VVT hubs were pulled off the camshafts in the process, so I guess that could be the issue.

Is there a sensor or diagnostic reading that would show this error?

sounds about right, pre-load on CVVT hub off a tooth or something,
Crank gear is keyed to the crankshaft so that eliminates the crank if its on the mark at set up.
