What is the size and type of fitting for the hardline going into the rack on a 2006 XC70?
Hello everyone Im looking to find what size and type of fitting I need to reattach a hardline to the power steering rack on my xc70. I believe it may be an m12x1.00 inverted flare but i want to be sure as I only have one shot at this. I have attached photos of what I am talking about.

Maybe you can take a thread pitch gauge to find out for sure, or go to the auto wreckers and get a sample part? You might also get a hold of the manufacturer (SMI or ZF) and see if they can provide that specification.

May give that a try. The problem is I can't accurately take a thread gauge measurement due to the distance and angle. I know the s60 rack uses an m12x1.00 but not sure if its inverted flare or not. google AI says volvo uses inverted flare but I don't fully trust it.

Can you measure and study the mating line thread? Perhaps order (and return?) a mating hard line to measure?
I would guess all brand racks would use the same connection threads so the hard lines all interchange.

You could make an impression with Blue Tack or something similar, then pull it out and measure that.

UPDATE: the fitting was m12x1.00 o-ring flare
I got my hands on an old chunk of hose from a junkyard and had a hydraulic shop fab it into an adapter which I then attached to the existing hose.
See attached photos
It ended up working with no leaks and my "completely shot and unserviceable" power steering rack lives to see another day.

Had to use a deep socket with an extension to bend the tube into shape because I couldn't fit a tube bender down there

Well done! So many people post those are flare fittings….when they aren’t. AI just follows the false post count, artificial Stupidity at its best.
Put some chafe relief. Old rubber hose, where those metal pieces come close or touch, zip tie chafe relief in place. Inspect annually for renewal.
