locked radio 1998 V70

I had electrical work done, the radio required a code which I didn't have handy. Against my better judgement, I tried entering a code a 3rd time and now the radio is saying OFF. I have disconnected the battery for 4 hours, still no luck getting it to where it says: CODE, which I now have. Any ideas on how to get my radio working?

Yes I do.
It's very frustrating, you have to have either the car RUNNING or the key On to position 1 for about three hours straight. NEVER turn it off or you will have to go thru it again for another 3 hours!
At that point if everything was OK with the radio before, it should go back to "CODE", THEN you enter your code ONCE!.
Obviously you don't have the correct code, you said "A" code, not "THE" code. Where did this code come from?
If you think you have an original radio (not a relacement from Volvo) and the code you have is not correct, you have to give the VIN to someone in a parts dept. at a Volvo dealer and they should get you the correct code for that VIN number.
If, after that, it still doesn't work, you have to pull the radio, (easy), get all of the numbers off the top of the radio and do the same thing, go to the parts dept and they can look up the correct code
NEVER try to enter a code more than twice, the third time it will lock up and you will have to go thru the above all over again

I called the service dept. here in Knoxville and they gave me a code over the phone. The one they gave me was wrong. After I gave them the number from my VIN they told me what car I had and even the color, but they got the code wrong. Lucily the people who had it before me wrote the code in the owners manual and it was right.

If you do have, or think you have, the correct code you can cut down on the 3 hour crap by pulling the radio fuse, or a battery cable, or the power connectors to the radio. Once you hook them back up press and hold the power on button and the number 6 preset button at the same time. Hold them until the radio comes on (a couple/three seconds). After that the radio will work for about three minutes and then revert to the CODE display.

Then enter the code.
