My 2002 Cross Country has 50,000 miles and for about the last 10,000 miles I have been getting a rattleing in the front end. It seems to be coming from the right side when I am driving, but sounds like the driver side when I am the passenger.
I have replaced the tie rods, both sides and also the left and right ends. This did not help, in fact the noise seemed to increase slightly.
Has anyone had a like problem that might help me pin-point the noise.

This is the most common part that fails.
If so, look at your strut mounts, if/when they crack, same noises will occur.
If you look at the top of the struts you can actually see the cracked mount

I had someone sway the car side to side using the roof rack while I felt the sway bar links. The lower joint on the passenger side was very sloppy and the driver side link had some play also. I also checked the rear links. These look new and feel tight.
Thanks you might have solved my problem.

Passenger side goes first, more potholes there.mitchellbd wrote:I had someone sway the car side to side using the roof rack while I felt the sway bar links. That's not the way to do it, you get the wheel off the ground and use a pry bar on the link end. If they rock back and forth, even a little bit, they're bad

I, too, have this problem on my '01 S60. It's very frustrating, and I guess I'll have to start replacing parts until it's fixed.

Worn out sway bar links and/or cracked strut mounts are the most common front end knocks and clunksshreksbrother wrote:I, too, have this problem on my '01 S60. It's very frustrating, and I guess I'll have to start replacing parts until it's fixed.

Yes, As I mentioned in the other thread, I had the dealer replace the bushing and the link ends. IIRC the bushings on the '93 are replaceable, but that later years they made a change that required the replacement of the sway bar if the bushings went bad. Apparently they are moulded right onto the SW.
