The dreaded transmission failure for this model is upon me....and of course the extended warranty ended. The code I got from a reputable Volvo mechanic is TCM-000C, which I believe is the solenoid failure code. And as we all know, there is no part replacement for the transmission.
Before I commit to a new tranny, can anyone tell me what is the solenoid's function? I noticed that the 2->3 shift can go back and forth, but on manual-matic mode of shifting things seem to be fine. Can I drive it in the manual-matic mode until such time as the transmission is totally shot? What are the potential problems with this?
And in case anyone has been able to replace just the solenoid, please share your story!
Thanks.

in the uk you can get the solenoids seperate.
i am having similar issues in my t6 and found the plug which goes into the gearbox end, black marked with a "k" was open circuit. it goes to earth and found the bad joining near the washer bottle/ecu module behind the healight right side.
i have still got a fault, but this is one fualt fixed !
let me know if you find aout anything... for the solenoids to be changed the gearbox has to come out.
