Do I need to turn on the headlights?

Post by theparkers »

I just bought my first Volvo... a 2007 S40. The headlights automatically come on... even when the switch inside is in the "off" position. I forget about half the time to turn the lights on when it gets dark... and when I DO turn them on, I forget to turn them off because the car doesn't beep at me when I get out. So basically, here are my questions:

1. Is there any difference between having the lights on and off? Are there any lights that only come on when the switch is in the "on" position?

2. If there is no difference, why is there a switch? I can't seem to find any difference between on and off... the only different position is when the lights are set to parking lights... which turns off the headlights, basically.

And while I'm asking questions, here's one totally unrelated:

Where is the fuse box? I thought it would be under the dash on the driver's side, but there's no obvious panels to open there.

Thanks for the help!
My life is spent in one long effort to escape the commonplaces of existence.

You are talking about the Daytime Running Lights...they are different and at night you do need to turn the headlights on....for one, no other lights (fogs, etc.) won't work without these on. As far as the panel goes, you do have a panel under the steering wheel (sound proofing panel) that comes out with a few screws...the fuses are under or in there.... Good luck.
