'76 244 wet weather starting
I seem to have a chronic wet weather starting problem with my 244. When its raining the car will crank but fails to even give a hint of catching. As soon as conditions dry up it'll start on first crank -enev if it's cold and damp outside. Where or what can I check?

This car has a simple reliable ignition system. Probably the spark is jumping. If it is totally dead, the spark is jumping somewhere at or between the ignition coil and the distributer cap. Make them totally clean, because if they are dirty the spark will very easy jump if it is humid. Clean the brown part of the ignition coil really carefully with spirit. Clean or change the distributer cap and the high tension cable. If it does not help, let some friend krank the engine a rainy dark night, while you are checking for the sparks jumping somewhere. You can easily see it when it is dark!

At long last wet weather starting problem resolved. Turned out to be a weak coil. Apparently it was the original thet came with the car. Swapped it out and presto, my 425,000 km DL is happily putputting along - wet or dry.[/code]
