a/c retrofit for 1980 240 dl

my husband thought that he could use the retrofit kit from autozone. he thought that the system was empty, but when he put on the refill hose, some (a little) r12 was still in the system. he then put in 1.5 cans of r134a. so my question is...what should he be doing now??? the a/c isn't blowing cold air and i'm afraid that he's ruined the whole system. can he unretrofit the system or is it just too late. i really appreciate any help you can offer.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The mixing of R12 and R134 is not recommended as, in the words of the Volvo bulletin covering the subject, "this could damage the compressor and equipment". The bulletin does not say it will and I suppose it depends on how much R12 was in there.

the a/c isn't blowing cold air

Does the compressor run and was it running before the retrofit?

compressor ran fine before retrofit and seems to still be fine, it's clicking on and air seems to be slightly cooler now

It may be that you are still a little short of freon.
