weird idle problems '94 850 turbo

Post by crq »

this may be redundant with an earlier post i sent but it's getting weirder and more frustrating as i go. i set out to only replace the crankcase vent pipes because they may be stopped up. but while in there doing that i found a very corroded rotor button and distr cap, extremely dirty throttle plate and the idle motor next to the throttle plate was stuck open from deposits. i very carefully cleaned the idle motor until it freed up and the throttle plate with a toothbrush and cleaner only. i replaced the cap and button with new ones. now it idles like crap, up and down, and the check engine light came on. i have adjusted nothing. it looks like i have a throttle position sensor, which i think cannot be adjusted, instead of a throttle switch which can, i think?, be adjusted. to be a bit sarcastic, it ran pretty good before i "fixed" all the bad stuff. what gives?

I'd check all the vacuum lines in and around where you were working. Also make sure the ends where they connect are tight. A vacuum leak can cause what you are describing.
