1995 850 Engine lifting/hoisting

Post by kenboyd »

I have a 1995 850 with 220k miles and a blown engine. All accessories have been removed and the engine is ready to lift, just sitting on the mounts. The question is, what is(are) the best spot(s) to connect to the engine for lifting. There is a really beefy lug in the top of the transmission casting that I plan on using for that end of the assembly, but no really good/obvious lift points on the engine end. My concern with wrapping in chain and lifting is damage to the engine from the method, not for the dead one, but the lifting method for the old one is rehearsal for lifting the new one.

Thoughts?

Volvo shows such a hoist device in VADIS. Not sure if you can make heads or tails from it, but maybe the following picture will help:

Good deal. Looks like get the Harbor Freight lifting bar and get a buddy to weld up an adapter to pick up the power steering pump bracket.

Thanks
