Oxygen Sensor Bosch B5252s engine

Post by felorachart »

I have a 1995 850 GLE sedan with the B5252s engine that was sold in Canada. Manual transmission not a turbo.

I ordered a Bosch oxygen sensor for the front and got part number Bosch 15097.

Is this the right sensor? I've had problems. I had talked to a parts guy at one of the Volvo dealers and he said it was the right one. Many of the websites online for parts ordering don't show the B5252s engine as it was not imported into the States.

I have a friend (retired mechanic/non Volvo) who is helping me on some of the mechanics of my car, so I will be ordering from time to time at a local parts store and sometimes on ebay. The closest dealer is 4 1/2 hours away.

thanks, C. Hart

UPDATE: the Bosch sensors never worked, probably because both of the auto supply stores here don't know volvo's and their ordering charts don't reflect the B5252S parts. This engine was only imported into Canada not the States, so all US parts catalogs don't include them. After the part store ordered 2 sensors which didn't work they fortunately refunded my money and I ended up ordering very expensive part from Volvo dealer.

Wish I were more of a mechanic.
and I do love my Volvo.

ALL narrow band O2 sensors are the same so long as the number of wires match. I think the 850 used a 4 wire sensor. Don't worry about the PN. How did the sensor not work?
Ambitious but rubbish

I respectfully disagree. Volvos are extremely picky about parts and the O2 sensors are one of the things that they are most picky about.

Yes with the bosch sensors and again we're talking about the B5252S engine....... the engine ran really rough, and I mean rough. And we tried two brand new sensors. I had to take a trip to Washington state with the second sensor. I had an appointment to remove the dash at a Volvo dealer and to check out why it was running rough. It was then I found out that the Fenix engine is not much known in the States (oh maybe a few snuck in or trickled down) but the dealership didn't carry the tricky picky parts and really didn't want to deal with it. They told me I'd be better off to drive it home.

When I got back to Canada a sensor from the volvo dealer (four and a half hours away) was installed by my mechanic and the car ran like a dream. Yes this is a picky picky part. Maybe if I had a 20 valve engine it would have been fine.

I so appreciate the forum.

I know I am late to this discussion, but, my v70 has the b5252s engine, which only has one oxygen sensor, and its a titania one
bosch don't make titania sensors, the ngk part number is 0TA4N5B1, check out the ngk site and you will find it listed for the b5252s engine
volvos, dont you just love em when they are running right

Thanks for posting this.

Here in Canada it's a NTK 25005. I trust it works as I haven't needed another one since I installed the expensive OEM in 2007.

I have put this info in my files.....

The Volvo OEM part was VERY expensive.
The NTK is more economical.
Here in Canada I can buy then on amazon.ca with free shipping.

Hopefully this will help other folks who have the Fenix engine.

Yes when my dear 1995 850 is running well, it's a dream. And in my small town a European mechanic found me and my car, all is well.
