cold start problem, 1992 240 GL s/w

My 245 wagon (75,000 miles) will start ok when cold. After 14-15 seconds it starts stalling. I have to rev it up for it to stay on. After it warms up it works fine. Where should I start looking.

check preheater hose from exhaust surround to airbox, check thermostat in airbox, check coolant temperature sensor for fuel injection (if it is bad it may be telling the ecm it is colder than it actually is and giveing you a longer injection pulse) are plugs fouled black? This would be an indication.
