89 240 Fuel Filter question

Post by Volvo_240_Atari_2600 »

Hi,

Florida
Volvo 240 wagon
202k miles
2.3 LH Jetronic fuel injection

OK
I recently purchased a new fuel filter, in tank fuel pump with all the added paraphernalia.

I have read other threads here and have seen in the HAYNES book where there are two fuel pumps. OK... That is easy. There's the in tank that I am replacing and there is the main pump beneath the car (rear drivers side) forward the tank. Next to it is the fuel filter (canister type), which after careful reading I made sure to purchase the correct one.

But my question is if there are two for my 89 245, where is #2 located?

I see where the firewall one is mounted if my car was an 87 or older, but I only see one filter down there.

I see the larger hose that comes from the in tank pump that leads to the main pump. The main pump runs right into the filter and from the filter there is a long plastic tube that takes the fuel to the firewall where a rubber fuel injection fuel hose connects to the plastic tube and runs all the way to the fuel pressure regulator.

At the end of the rail, there is a rubber fuel injection hose (which I see as the excess fuel return runs down the firewall and is clamped to a metal line that runs all the way to the back (continuously) to the wheel well where another rubber hose then connects and returns to the tank.

Nowhere in the route of those lines is another filter.

Is this correct for an 89 240 with the 2.3 LH Jetronic in the US?
Or could there have been a bypass over the years before I acquired this car?

Thanks.
Eric

Hi,

The other question is in following all of the lines to and from the fuel tank, I noticed ALL but one hose with clamps.

The feeder line (Rigid, but yet somewhat flexible) plastic line (stock?) that connects to the fitting on the fuel filter has no clamp
