Catalytic Converter, 98 Volvo s70 T5

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Catalytic Converter, 98 Volvo s70 T5

Post by fletch02536 »

My cat is starting to smell pretty burnt up when I drive it for any period of time. It could be just moisture but I smell this heat smell a lot of times when I step out of the car after a four hour drive. Any ways, I wanted to know if it is alright to use an aftermarket cat on the T5, I herd it messes things up. I think it would free the turbo up though a bit. I already custom made from the cat back but didn't want to mess with the cat unless I had to.

Help!?!?

Thanks

A lot of people do.... Magnaflow if I recall. Do a search here...I think there's a write-up about it.

The next time you drive your car, give the cat a visual. If it is red hot, it could be that something else is the problem.
Are you running rich? What's your MPG like?

Actually the problem ended up being that the turbo oil return line was leaking out onto the cat causing a bad smell. I ordered some o rings online but I was sent the wrong ones so I made my own out of some rubber gasket material.
