Brake bleeding procedure '87 740 GLE Wagon

Post by ccb222 »

I have replaced brake master cylinder so assume I should bleed all four brakes. Chilton manual describes the procedure, but does not say whether to do it with the engine running or not. Quick answer appreciated! Also, Chilton says there are three bleeders on front and I can only find two (Bendix calipers). Thanks--Charles (ccb222)

You don't need the engine running as you don't need the servo when bleeding brakes.

Volvo used ATE, Girling and Bendix calipers. I'm not sure which one of the three has 3 bleed valves but two of them only have 2 so we can assume Bendix was one of them. If you should find a third then it is imperative that you open all three together.
