2002 V70 XC with 30K miles. Need to replace the tires. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. 90% of the miles is local with limited hwy miles. Thanks everyone.

Look on www.tirerack.com and see what fits your car as well as ratings, etc. I've ordered from them since about 10 years ago with great results.

WhatEVER you want.
If you don't need a HEAVY DUTY snow tire, most tires will work just fine up to a couple of inches of snow

The cheapest tires are the best tires. If they last a long time, then they are harder and take longer to stop. Tires don't blow out like they used to. They are all built to the DOT minimum specifications. "Tested in The Great White North". When they are worn out, change them!

Umm...I would have to disagree. For wear, ride comfort, noise and stopping power, there is a vast difference between tires. I will agree however that the expensive tires are not always the best.

Wear: If they are cheap you don't care if they wear quickly. It was probably your suspension anyway that caused it. Wear rating is from 120 to 500. The closer to the highest miler rating of 500, the longer it will take to stop. All passenger tires are made the same way. They may have a the lowest speed rating of R of around 120 mph for 24 hours. I would like to meet the man who has ever come close. One thing I've noticed is that the Europeans and the Americans don't use the same ruler. Yes ruler. Put a 205/55/16 by Goodyear next to a Euro tire. You don't need a ruler to see the American tire is wider and not as tall. So throw the ruler away and go back to my first statement.
