Best wheels/tires for traction on 2000 V70

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Best wheels/tires for traction on 2000 V70

Post by FireFox31 »

Hello, I'm looking to improve the traction on my 2000 V70. It's a stick shift, and the stock 15x6.5 Michelin Energy Savers constantly break free. When starting, I have to ease on the gas so slowly that I'll swear I've worn out the clutch.

Can anyone recommend a good OEM Volvo wheel and a "performance" tire? I really love the 16x6.5 Columbia, but I feel like traction won't improve since width isn't improving. My other choice is the 17x7 Comet. Again, with only .5" extra width, is it worth the cost?

Also, can anyone recommend the sizes which will fit the 2000 V70? I've used the miata.net size calculator to determine which tires are the same diameter as the stock ones. I just don't understand how tire width dictates wheel width. ie: 235mm = what width wheel?

And what's a good source for new, unused OEM wheels? Do dealers still sell Columbia's?

Thanks.
