02 S60 AWD - super wierd car - must have multiple problems

Post by notny41 »

This thing is smoking like a chainsmoker. It also hesitates and chugs (mostly at low rpms). Also, the check engine light stays on.

I got so damn frustrated with it running like shit tonight that I put it in 1st and floored it. Thinking I was "getting the carbon out of it". I got to the stop sign and put it in the normal automatic mode again and took off and got the message center told me "No Oil Pressure - stop safely".

A while ago, I saw a message such as "low oil pressure" and I checked the oil and it was almost all gone. So I added enough to get it back to the bottom line. But I never got that message this time. Just the No Oil Pressure - stop safely" message.

I got to my driveway and it sounded like a diesel. I got out grabbed a quart of oil and dumped it in, started it back up and it was noisy for a couple seconds and then got quiet again.

So, being I didn't have any more oil around I took my motorcycle up to the store and got a couple more quarts. Got home and added one of the quarts and pulled the dipstick out, cleaned it off and checked again. Much to my dismay it was over-full.

What the hell? Apparently I had enough oil but the computer was telling me I had no oil pressure...

This thing is f'd up!

Anyone with similar experiences or any idea what could be happening?

You need to take this thing to the dealer and see what's really going on. Adding motorcycle oil, etc., etc., if it's not already screwed up, it's surely getting that way quickly.

Hahaha!!!

No, MIJ, I didn't put motorcycle oil in it, I rode my bike up to get the oil cuz I didn't think I had any in my car.

I was hoping you would reply to my post cuz you seem to know what is going on on these things.

I'm thinking I have a clogged oil trap, or a leaky set of turbo seals or something. The codes they pulled at auto zone all have to do with low boost.

This thing has been nothing but one headache after another for me. And up until now, I have treated it like fricking royalty. The problem with taking it to a dealer is they are all in BF'ing Egypt!

Please help - can you tell me where the MAF sensor and O2 sensor are on my car MIJ?

THanks!

Well if you have seal leaks enough to lose that much oil you should see it on your driveway. That is pretty funny that I thought you put motorcycle oil in your S60.

Anyway, the MAF is connected to the air filter box...right between it and the large accordion hose that runs to the turbo. If I'm not mistaken you have 2 02 sensors...one in front of the CAT converter (under the car) and one right after it. If the CAT is bad, it's most likely the front one, but you should be getting a code for that and not for boost.

If not a Volvo dealer, then you should at least take your S60 to a good indy mechanic who knows about and has experience with Volvo's.

Good luck again.

When re you guys going to realize that STOP engine means STOP.
You're not getting oil pressure for whatever reason, something is (probably your entire breather box/PCV system) clogged up, or the 0- rings have collapsed in the oil pan

O-rings collapsing in the oil pan can be more serious than one realizes...it means that oil is not being pumped up to the top of the engine...in other words, it's not recirculating. This will after awhile (short while at that) cause engine failure. Get it checked out and stop driving the car until this problem is solved.
