I noticed that your first post was asking if OBD2 was fitted to the diesel and I must be honest I don't know. However the OBD2 connector, if it is fitted, will be in the passenger compartment of the car within easy reach of the driver's position. On the 850 it is mounted just in front of the gear lever under a coin tray which simply pulls off.
I suggest that you check first for the connector.
Also where are you? I know of several UK companies who will advise on the best reader for any car, but that would not be much help if you are in Australia.
Bill.

So it has OBD2 but a scanner will not necessarily find electrical problems unless they are causing a malfunction in the engine (fuel & ignition systems), automatic gearbox, ABS, electronic climate control, cruise control, SRS or instrument cluster. If you have a fault in any of those then the check engine or malfunction indicator light will be illuminated.
What electrical problems do you have?

It started with the tailgate and reardoors wich won't open again.
then the battery(new) drains to zero within 3days
the radio works but the display doesn't
fuelmeter, audio display on the wheel and the parking assistance
are striking too.
so I pondered about the relation between all these problems!
probably I have to change the HU 803 radio first and then testing relays
there are a lot of them... any ID about what relay is what for?
the haynes book doesn't give any specifications about functions and locations!
I thought a codereader might help analyse

Do you know any bankers? With these problems........ Only joking.still not a banker
I have the relay listing for the UK models and they should be similar to the European, if not the same. The bad news is that there is a potential for 84 relays to be fitted to this car. The good news is that a lot of them can be ruled out.
In the load area there will be a large fuse/relay plate and a small fuse only plate.
Starting with the small one on early models fuse 6 supplies power to fuses 6 -10 on the large plate. On later models fuse 5 covers this function. Unfortunately, I can not find a date which would say which is early and which is late but check both to see if they are blown.
Moving to the large fuse/relay plate fuse 6 is for the tailgate lock and fuse 8 for the rear doors central locking.
Still in the large plate but now with relays:
#7 is the tailgate release relay.
#8 is the tailgate lock relay.
#11 is the central locking RH rear door - unlock.
#12 is the central locking RH rear door - lock.
#29 is the central locking rear double locking relay.
#30 is the central locking LH rear door - unlock.
#31 is the central locking LH rear door - lock.
By fuelmeter do you mean the fuel gauge?fuelmeter, audio display on the wheel and the parking assistance
are striking too.
Do you have panel lights on all other parts that should be lit?
Whilst awaiting your reply I shall check the wiring diagrams to see if the radio and audio display on the wheel are connected.
My parking assistance never goes on strike - she wouldn't dare.

absolutely right Bill; gauge = fuelmeter on the dashboard (facia)!
today somebody told me that the 'not properly communicating radio' will probably be (90%) the origin of the bulk of all elec. failures.
so I made an appointment with the local V. dealer changing the HU 803 if diagnozing can be completed within two hours. wish I had vida myself.
Not being owner of a hedgefund (though with lots of subprimes invested) fearing worst, hoping for the best.
I'm gonna check the relays tomorrow anyway and thank you for your help and co-thinking! I'll keep you posted..!

while entering the local dealers workshop which looked like a antiseptic surgery room and impressed by an immense wall full with shiny special tools, I wondered how many people contributed (suffered) to this hall of fame.
It became clear that after reloading the radiosoftware and changing a relay
the communication within all different elements was restored.
Finally because the communicating canbus signals were too weak we found
that some earth connections needed to be cleaned.
Might be a reason for an more hidden earth leak?!

A P2 Volvo OBD connector is under the dash, lower left side.billofdurham wrote:I noticed that your first post was asking if OBD2 was fitted to the diesel and I must be honest I don't know.
